Trump Weighs Firing Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle Over Misconduct Claims
President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering dismissing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle amid misconduct allegations, first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The allegations claim Guilfoyle accepted lavish gifts and services, threatened a host-country official, and offered to use her influence in the administration in exchange for payment of a large credit card bill. Among them: a text-message request for a former Trump donor to wire her $100,000 to pay off an American Express card days before her Senate confirmation.
Her lawyer disputes the authenticity of the messages, and Guilfoyle denies sending them. A senior U.S. official told the Associated Press that Trump and Rubio were "extremely pissed off" and likely to make a decision this week, after Monday's Columbus Day holiday.
The controversy flared during Rubio's recent visit to Athens, which Guilfoyle attended. Guilfoyle is the former fiancee of Donald Trump Jr. Asked Friday about the allegations, Trump said he knew little: "She was always very nice." As of October 12, no official announcement has been made.
