Trump Gives Netanyahu "Complete and Total Endorsement" Ahead of Israel's Oct 27 Election
US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a full-throated endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, nine days before Israel's October 27 parliamentary election — its first national vote since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 plunged the Middle East into turmoil.
"Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, styled as a letter to Israeli voters.
"Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel."
"A Great Warrior Prime Minister"
Trump called Netanyahu "a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combating the Islamic Republic of Iran," writing in all caps that the Israeli leader "WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"
"I have watched Bibi under the most trying of times," Trump continued. "Normal men or women in such situations would have wilted under the pressure — But Bibi did not wilt, he actually got stronger, and maintains that same Strength today."
The president tied the endorsement directly to the US-Israel campaign against Iran, arguing that Tehran ultimately would have carried out its promise to "destroy the Little Satan and the Big Satan." Iran, he claimed, has been "systematically destroyed, both Militarily and Financially, and unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job."
Then came the warning to Israeli voters: "If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi," Trump wrote, "America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so."
Netanyahu Responds
Within minutes, Netanyahu thanked Trump on X for "the tremendous support and the collaboration," posting in Hebrew: "Together we will complete the mission!"
The endorsement lands in a tight race. Netanyahu's Likud is trailing in polls behind former army chief Gadi Eisenkot's centrist Yashar party, and the October 27 election could decide whether Netanyahu remains in power after one of the most consequential periods in Israel's history.
The Israeli election is being watched closely in Washington: Trump has positioned US foreign policy around a close partnership with Netanyahu through the war in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran — and his open intervention in another country's election, days before the vote, is already drawing global reaction.
