Guardians Complete Historic ALDS Comeback, Punch Ticket to ALCS

The Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 in ALDS Game 5 on Saturday night, Oct. 10, at Progressive Field, winning the series 3-2.

Cleveland trailed the series 0-2 — making them the 11th team in Division Series history to come back from a 2-0 deficit, and the first since the 2017 Yankees.

Gavin Williams struck out 12 batters over 5⅔ scoreless innings, tying a franchise postseason record. Jose Ramirez provided the offense with a two-run homer in the fourth.

The Guardians' pitching staff combined for 21 strikeouts, setting a 9-inning postseason record.

Cleveland now advances to the AL Championship Series against the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays, with ALCS Game 1 scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, in St. Petersburg.
