9 Dead in Erie, Pennsylvania Family Mass Shooting
A 45-year-old man shot and killed eight people inside a home on Perry Street in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, Oct. 9, then apparently shot himself, authorities said at a Saturday press conference.
The victims include an 8-months-pregnant 24-year-old woman, Angelina Stone, her 22-month-old daughter and 5-year-old son, plus four other relatives and one family friend. Seven of the eight victims were related to the shooter.
Police Chief Rick Lorah said the gunman shot two distressed women outside the home before returning inside. The department's ShotSpotter system alerted police shortly before 5 p.m. Friday; officers arriving on scene found no survivors.
On Sunday, the father of the slain toddler, Julius Windham, said the gunman was the family's grandfather. The shooter has not been publicly named by authorities, and a motive has not been established.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro offered support to the community in the aftermath of the tragedy.
